Joseph Nicholas Simone, 67, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, August 12, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124, where the Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 13, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 309 Benton Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Dr. Joe was born January 12, 1949, in Kansas City, MO to Tom and Elizabeth (Van Compernolle) Simone. He earned his Doctorate of pure mathematics and Bachelor of Science with distinction in mathematics and physics from UMKC. He went on to be a mathematics professor for UMKC and Rockhurst College. He then decided to go into the field of medicine and earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kansas in 1983. He practiced medicine for the last 29 years in ophthalmology, and during that time was the chairman of the Ophthalmology Journal Club, president and board member of the Kansas City Society of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, president of the Medical Societies of Johnson and Wyandotte County. In addition to these accomplishments he authored many articles in prominent medical and academic journals.
Dr. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Mike Simone. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Dr. Cynthia Simone; his sons, Anthony (Sonya) and Peter (Laura); his grandchildren, Mia, Angelina, Claire, and Audrey; sister, Nanna Lackey (Frank); sister-in-law, Trish Simone; and nephews and nieces, Dominic, Phillip, Andrea, Michael, Michelle, and Roseann.
Dr. Joe was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.
