Joe Monachino, Sr., age 86, of Kansas City, died peacefully on January 30, 2024, in his home surrounded by loved ones.

Joe was born on February 6, 1937, in Elba, NY to Onofrio and Rose Monachino.  He earned his BA from Northwest Missouri State University and his master's in education from UMKC.  He was a math teacher and coach for over 50 years, who taught at St. Pius X High School, North Kansas City High School, and the Blue River Community Campus of the Metropolitan Community College of Kansas City.  He is a member of the State of Missouri, Kansas City, and St Pius X High School Halls of Fame as a successful football coach.  Joe was the recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award given by The Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Paul (Helen), Pat (Mary Ellen), Sam, Ono (Nancy), and Butch (Joan), and his sisters Fe (George), Betty, Pauline (Amos) and Sue.  He is survived by his wife Anne Mahoney, several brother and sister in-laws, his children Ann Marie (John), Joe Jr. (Janice), Tim (Penny), Chris, Vincent (Tom) and Mary, his grandchildren Anthony, Amanda (Max), Alex (Taylor), Sam, Rose, Toni, Ben, Gabby, Rocco, Gino and Santo, his great-granddaughters Eden and Mabel, and several nieces and nephews.

The Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. followed by visitation from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 5th at St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, February 6th at 11:00 a.m. at St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to go to St. Pius X High School and St. Charles Borromeo School Ministry.
