Josephine
Abbott
Dec 12, 1927 — Mar 18, 2020
Josephine Abbott, 92, passed away March 18, 2020. Funeral Services are private with burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Josephine was born December 12, 1927, to her thrilled parents Joseph and Sadie (Provenzo) Cherrito. She was the first born of the twin baby girls. Her twin Lucille (Cherrito) DiCapo and Josephine were inseparable. As identical twins, they loved to switch places throughout their lives. This fun continued in to their early 70's.
Josephine married Bennie S. Abbott on June 14, 1947. Bennie was the love of her life. He preceded her in death in 2005. They were blessed with eight children: six sons and two daughters. The Abbott household was always a lively one! Josephine passion was cooking. It was not unusual to find extra kids eating breakfast or dinner at the Abbott's. Whether you were hungry or not, eating was mandatory. Josephine took her love for cooking to the Italian Gardens Restaurant. She worked there until her retirement. Even after a long day of making all kinds of delicious food alongside her dear cousin Kay Vigliaturo, Josephine would still come home and cook more!
In her later years, Josephine always kept up to date on current events, reading her newspaper daily, and watching favorite tv shows.
Josephine was a very devout Catholic, watching church every day and always praying for those she loved. As a big sports fan, she would pray the rosary for her KC Chiefs before the game. She was a very happy Super Bowl fan.
Josephine was special to so many of us! We will miss her dearly.
Josephine was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Andrea Abbott; twin sister, Lucille DiCapo; and sister-in-law, Bena Abbott. She is survived by her children, John and Susan Abbott, Joe and Kathy Abbott, Vincent and Sharon Abbott, Benedict S. and Ruth Ann Abbate (Abbott), Mary Abbott, Bena and Tom Roseburrough, Peter and Jill Abbott, Anthony and Asha Abbott; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nephew and nieces, Joe Mike and Leanora DiCapo & Family, Rose Mary Totty & Family; and numerous other nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
