Funeral services for Katharine "Kathy" Lynne Shepherd, 72, Lenexa, Kansas, formerly of Independence, Missouri, will be held 12:00 p.m., Saturday, July 20, 2019, at Passantino Bros Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri, with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. At a later date, burial of the ashes will take place at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Kathy passed away July 13, 2019 surrounded by her loved ones at her home.
Kathy was born January 22, 1947 in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Shirley Lillian Lewis.
Kathy married Arthur "Gene" Shepherd on November 19, 1990, in Kansas City, Missouri, and was married for over 20 years.
Kathy attended Park University for two years with an emphasis in accounting.
Kathy was an accountant for Blue Hills Community Services which she retired from.
OH MY, Kathy loved all the KC Sports team, Chief's season ticket holder for many years. She loved our KC Royals, especially enjoying our 2015 World Series victory. But she didn't just love the local teams, she loved all sports. Always finding a favorite Golfer (Spieth), favorite NASCAR driver (Larson), favorite Tennis player (Federer). She just had joy watching the competition.
Kathy was a spunky, feisty, and a fun-loving lady who was always willing to have a good time with her friends.
Survivors include her brother, Charlie (Michelle) Decker of Shawnee, Kansas, niece, Maddy Calvello of Shawnee, Kansas, step son, Gene (Mary) Shepherd and their children of Kansas City, Missouri, daughter-in-law, Cathy Crabtree and her children of Pattonsburg, Missouri, nephew, James (Rachel) Adkins and their children of Liberty, Missouri, her two very best friends; Michael Carl and Jared Covert of Lenexa, Kansas, and a huge host of close and dear friends forever.
Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Shepherd in 2010, son, Jonathan Copeland in 2007, mother, Shirley in 2001, and sister, Constance Adkins in 2012.
Specifically, Kathy would like to give the biggest thanks and hugs to her caregivers, Tara, Erin and the many angels from Good Shepherd Hospice.
" Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal".
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kathy's name to the University of Kansas Medical Center Cancer Research or Good Shepherd Hospice.
