Obituary

In cherished memory of Kathleen "Kathy" Ellen Smith who passed away peacefully from an illness on September 30, 2025. She was born on July 6, 1948, in Kansas City, Missouri to parents Frank and Helen Shannon. During her final days, she was surrounded by God, family, and loves ones.

As a devoted servant of God, Kathy lived out her unwavering faithfulness to her parish, its parishioners, and the broader church community. Her deep spiritual commitment began in childhood, was nurtured through her marriage, and became a guiding light in how she raised her children. Kathy's life was rooted in prayer, religious devotion, and a steadfast trust in God's plan. She was and will continue to be an inspiration to others.

Kathy was a loving and loyal wife to her husband, Ronald "Ron" Smith, sharing more than 58 beautiful years together. She was blessed with four devoted children and their spouses, twelve delightful grandchildren, and one adorable great-grandchild. As a wife, mother, sister, and friend, Kathy embodied patience, kindness, and constant support. She was always present, never missing a meaningful conversation or a milestone in her family life. Her sense of humor was a gift to all; she had a way of delivering the perfect punchline just when it was needed most. She was the heart of the Smith family.

As a Kanas City native, she loved many things about the city. She loved Starlight Theatre as a season ticket holder for 26 years, the Kansas City Zoo, the iconic Western Auto sign, the B-2 Stealth Bomber flyovers for Chiefs games, BBQ, the Plaza lights, and so much more. All these things she experienced with her family by her side.

Kathy is survived by her husband Ron, their children Bridgette, Kelley, Stephen, Nathaniel and their close-knit families, her brother Thomas Shannon, her nephew Craig Shannon, and many in-laws.
