Laura Kay Willhaus Emerson, 53, of Kansas City, MO, died peacefully in her sleep, March 22, 2023, after a two-month battle with AML.

Laura was born April 1, 1969, daughter of William and Ida May Willhaus.   She graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1987, attended Northwest Missouri State University and earned an associate degree from Penn Valley Community College. Laura had a deep Christian faith and attended Solid Rock Bible Church.   She loved spending time with family and friends.  She enjoyed volunteering at Northland Shepherd's Center, fishing, reading, music, surprises of any kind and fireworks!  Laura adored animals, especially her dog Peter Pan and cat Sweetie Marie.   Laura was known for her beautiful smile, explosive laugh and ability to chat with anyone at any time.  She didn't know a stranger and was gifted at making others feel welcome and important.

Laura is survived by her husband, David Emerson; her parents, William and Ida May Willhaus; sisters, Lisa Gibson and Janna Willhaus; brother, Keith Willhaus; nephew, Connor Gibson; niece, Katie Gibson; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, at the Solid Rock Bible Church, 2501 NE Parvin Road, Kansas City, MO 64116.   Visitation at 10:00 a.m. followed by service at 11:00 a.m.   In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Solid Rock Bible Church or the Great Plains SPCA Pet Adoption Center.
