Laura Ann "Lulu" Douglas McGlocklin, Kansas City, MO, passed away at her sister's home on Tuesday, January 21 ^st , 2020, surrounded by her family and dear friends.

Laura was born April 26 ^th , 1965 in Kansas City. She was a 1983 graduate of St. Pius X High School and earned her Associate of Applied Science in Paralegal Practice from Metropolitan Community Colleges.  Most recently, she was the office manager of St. Patrick's Parish in Kansas City North until 2018, and previously worked at St. Patrick's Elementary, her childhood grade school. She spent most of her career in event planning, beginning with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), and later with the Intercontinental Hotel on the Plaza and the Ritz-Carlton in New Orleans. She was a United States Navy veteran with six years of service, four as active duty and two as active reserve.  She was a volunteer with Crossroads Hospice, and because of her soft spot for veterans, spent many hours with veterans in hospice care at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron.

Laura was preceded in death by her father, Bob Douglas; her stepfather, Jack Comfort; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.  She is survived by her mother, Joyce Comfort; stepmother, Peggy Douglas; siblings, Mark Douglas (Karen) of Cypress, TX, Susan Marx of Kansas City, Carol Price of Boise, ID, Steve Douglas (Sharon) of Kansas City, Paul Douglas of Buda, TX, Jason Douglas (Sally) of St. Joseph, MO; stepbrother, Jim Comfort (Rose Mary) of Lenexa, KS; former brother-in-law, Dennis Marx of Kansas City; and her beloved dachshund Ruby Doo.  She leaves numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who loved her immensely.

Laura was adventurous, fearless, and funny, and was the cool aunt who rode the Ripcord, jumped out of airplanes, loved Sweet Tarts, Sprees and Milk Duds, and moved to Alaska on a whim. There will never be a family game of Balderdash or Cards Against Humanity that she isn't thought of and painfully missed. Her quick wit and infectious laugh (head thrown back, eyes squinted, no sound) were unique, and the world will be a little less bright without her.

The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of St. Patrick's Parish and School, who were Laura's second family, and treated her with much love and kindness, as well as the wonderfully caring staff at Crossroads Hospice. A special thanks to Leigh Jankowski, Laura's longtime Crossroads' nurse who took such good care of her and who became her dear friend. She was so blessed with many great friends from all walks of her life, and she so appreciated their love and support this past year.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. followed by Reflections at 10:45 a.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1357 NE 42 ^nd Terr., Kansas City, MO 64116. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. Per Laura's request, in lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to St. Patrick's Parish or Crossroads Hospice.
