Lawrence D. Martinez of Independence, MO, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018.  The Rosary will be prayed at 11:30 a.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. on Monday, February 26, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 611 N Liberty St., Independence, MO 64050.  Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Lawrence was born on August 6, 1955, in Kansas City, MO, to Jose and Nettie (Flores) Martinez.  He was outgoing and never met a stranger. He loved music and had a beautiful voice. He often surprised people when they heard him sing. He was an avid reader, especially the Bible and books on history or set in the Old West. He liked to watch the Royals, Chiefs, and boxing.  He loved his family and spending time with them.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brothers and sister; Alfonso Martinez (Jill), Suzanne Higbee (Joe), and Gregory Martinez (Megan); nieces and nephews, Danielle Martinez, Joel Blevins, Rebecca Martinez, Natalie Martinez, Allison Martinez, Ava Martinez, Matthew Higbee, and Rachel Eis (Josh); and great-nephew, Ashdon Martinez.
