Lawrence Tuan Viet Tran was born on January 6, 1941, to Cuu Tran and Huyen Le. He was the oldest of five children. He was enlisted in the Vietnamese Army and fought in the Vietnam War from 1960 to 1975. Mr. Tran was a captain lieutenant and was respected and loved by his soldiers. When returned from the war, he got actively involved with his parish in different ministries such as parish council, youth ministry, catechism, and many more. In December 1994, his entire family immigrated to the United States and resided in Kansas City, Missouri. He continued to get involved with the Vietnamese parish and community at large in different capacities while supporting his family.

Tuan was preceded in death by his parents, Cuu Tran and Huyen Le. He is survived by his wife, Thoa Nguyen, and their children: Khanh Tran, Tu Tran, Uyen Tran, Cuong Tran and Anh Tran. He was especially fond of his five grandchildren: Quynh Tram Tran, Quan Dominic Vu, Uyen Thi Vu, An Vu, and Hana Gia Han Vo.

Visitation and Prayer for Tuan will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd, Kansas City, Missouri 64124. On Saturday, December 20, 2025, services will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 309 Benton Blvd, Kansas City, Missouri 64124, with viewing and Rosary starting at 9:00 a.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Following Mass, the family will offer light refreshments in the church gym.

Tuan will greatly be missed by his family and friends. His humors and gentle manners at work, at church, and at home left a lasting impression on his family and the people that he got to encounter. During his time of being bedridden, his personality touched all who visited him. It was as if suffering could not get in the way of him being a friend and confidant to his family and friends. A spirit of resilience, patience, and joy was admirable to behold.

On his last day, he received the last rites from the parish priest. It was a memorable experience for all in the room. Tuan's legacy of love and forgiveness to his wife, children, grandchildren and the entire family will continue to live on as in the Scriptural verse, "Love never fails. These three remain, Faith, Hope, and Love. But the greatest of these is Love" (1 Corinthians 13).
