Leo Ross Johnson, 89, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his family. Leo was born July 26, 1925 in Sugar Creek, MO, to Maude and Ray Johnson. Leo attended North Kansas City High School. Leo married Imelda Marie Dahm in 1948 in North Kansas City and raised seven children. Leo was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was a member of Fr. Hager Council 7064 of the Knights of Columbus and was a 4th Degree Knight. Leo worked for Missouri Gas Energy for 41 years as an air conditioning specialist. Leo was a lifelong Kansas City Royals fan and in his words, "slept through more games than any fan in the major leagues."
Leo was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Imelda; his sister Edith Hensley; his brothers Herb and Bud Johnson; and his great-granddaughter Taylor Marie Stratman. Leo is survived by his children Diana (Gary) Dugan, Dennis (Rhonda) Johnson, Donna (Mike) Shields, Dolora Cox, Dana (Jim) Nolan, Darla (Buddy) Letts, and DeLyne (Troy) Knox; 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. We thank Leo's caregivers Pam Knudson, Evelyn Anderson, NorthCare Hospice, and many other friends and relatives for their great care and compassion.
Visitation will be Friday, November 28, from 3:00-5:30 p.m. followed by Rosary at 5:30 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 6:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1357 N.E. 42nd Terr., Kansas City, MO 64116. Burial will take place Saturday, November 29, at 10:00 a.m. at Resurrection Cemetery in Kansas City North. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to St. Patrick's Parish.
