Obituary

Louis Rocco "Big Lou" Monaco, 90, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at his home.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday, June 22, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124, where the Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 911 E. Missouri Ave., Kansas City, MO 64106. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Louis's name to Don Bosco Senior Center or NorthCare Hospice.

Louis was born February 19, 1922, one of nine children (6 brothers and 2 sisters) to Charles G. and Rose (Sapenaro) Monaco. Louis was a milkman for 40 years at Fairmount Country Club Dairy. He was a charter member of the Holy Name Society, a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a clown for the Knights of Columbus Clown Club. Louis was a scout leader for Troop 107 and an honorary warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was a coach for 30 years for the Catholic League, 3 & 2 Baseball and Don Bosco. He was a member of Don Bosco Senior Center. Louis loved to sing and dance. He will be remembered for his generosity and humor. He was always quick with a joke or a song.

Louis was preceded in death by his daughter, Roseanne Simone in 1986, his son, Charles Louis Monaco in 2004, and his grandson, Charles Louis Monaco II in 2004.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Louise (Mistretta) Monaco; sons and daughters-in-law, Louis II and Benecia Monaco of Clinton, MO, John and Cathy Monaco of St. Louis, MO, JoAnn Monaco; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way, 2 great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Sladish & numerous other relatives.

Pallbearers: Joseph A. Simone, Benjamin L. Monaco, Dr. Joseph Monaco, Louis Joseph Monaco, Louis John Monaco, Tony Mike Monaco, Nicholas J. Monaco, Tracy "Scooter" Howell, Danny King, Kent Swan, Mick Milnark.

The family offers a special thank you to Dr. Bogard, Dr. Montgomery and Dr. Kohen for their outstanding and compassionate care for the past 20 years. Also a special thank you to the staff of NorthCare Hospice, especially Jessica and Gordon, and the staff at St. Luke's Plaza Hospital and North Kansas City Hospital.
