Obituary

Margaret Ann Basgall, age 91, passed away January 18 in Cary, North Carolina. She was born on November 20, 1932 in Kansas City, MIssouri, where she spent most of her life.

Margaret Ann was an accomplished artist, teacher, gardener and baker. She started her career at WDAF-TV, the first television station in Kansas City. She met her husband, Charles, at WDAF and they were married in 1962. Though she graduated from Avila College and pursued teaching as her main occupation, she continued to paint, draw, sculpt, make ceramics, and pass along her knowledge of art to children throughout her life. She was an expert gardener who planted flowers, raised vegetables and created beautiful rock gardens. There wasn't a plant she didn't know! She was good at baking and sewing, and appreciated a good joke. She was an active member of several Catholic parishes over the course of her lifetime, and focused on ministry outreach in retirement. She enjoyed traveling with her daughter Lisa to many national parks, and visiting her grandchildren as often as she could.

Margaret Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, Charles. She is survived by her daughters, Melanie and Lisa; grandchildren, Natalie and Ryan; sister, Eugenia Sullivan Moley; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 29, at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church in Lee's Summit, Missouri. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Her family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Kansas City Young Audiences (kcya.org), a provider of arts education programs for children.
