Maria Nila David, 68, passed away May 30, 2020. A Memorial Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help / Redemptorist Catholic Church, 3333 Broadway, Kansas City, MO 64111. Inurnment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Eulogies for Maria Nila David

For most people including family my mom went by her nickname "Nel"...

Nel was born in the Philippines on November 12, 1951 to Brigida and Demetrio Aguila. She had one sister Nimfa Dizon.

Nel was a dedicated wife of 43 years to her soulmate, love of her life, confidant, and best friend Vic David. They met while they were in college at Holy Angel University in the Philippines. They both graduated to be educators. They married on December 22, 1976. From that day forward they were never apart unless they were at work. They did everything together - even simple errands of running to the grocery store, gas station, dropping off mail, etc. Their most favorite hobbies were gardening, shopping, and cooking. Their love was one you would read in a fairy-tale. Nel had two children - Maria Eiserman (42 years old) and Vincent "JJ" David (28 years old). Her unconditional love for her children was felt daily. As a mother, she taught her children first and foremost the values of our Catholic church, to be kind, compassionate, respectful, and to stand behind their morals no matter what. She never wanted her children to conform but instead to be themselves. Although she only had two biological children being an educator for 41 years, she had hundreds of "babies" as she would call them throughout her life. Anyone who met her, she treated like family. She was a Mimi of three whom she called her grandbabies the "loves of her life" - Michael, Stevie, and Ella. She helped raise her grandbabies as they spent as much time at Mimi and Papa's as they did with their parents. Her love for them was a beautiful sight. She was proud of them no matter what. She spoiled them to the point where she and her husband "handfed" them until they were at least 5 years old just to make sure they ate. If she found out they wanted some material things and their parents said no, she bought it for them (secretly at times). She may have spoiled them but, she did teach them the same values as her children. Her grandchildren loved her so much. She was always in a good mood when her grandbabies were around. Her daughter always teased her that they were her prized possessions. She loved her son-in-law, Sean Eiserman, like her own. She and Vic often said they hit the jackpot with him.

Mommy, you were the most perfect mother to JJ and me. You spoiled us rotten but with discipline. I am 42 years old but, when I was around you, I felt like your little girl again. I strive to be the mother that you were. Please pray for Sean and me that we may continue your legacy through your grandbabies. I know you are proud of us and love us because you told us every day. You were there when I took my first breathe on this earth; I was there when you took your last. What a blessing from God. Home is not where your heart is - "Home is where my Mommy is". As I promised to you, I will take care of Daddy, JJ and your grandbabies. I know you are in heaven. No more pain. You are with your parents who will now take care of you.

Hon, you are and will always be the love of my life. Our love is infinite. I will miss you dearly. Pray for us and watch over us.

Memoires of our aunt, cousin, sister, and friend...

First impression of Nel was that she was a very formidable woman. As you get to know her, that feeling transformed into the most loving and generous woman.

"Auntie Nel was the best aunt. She loved me, she fed me, she spoiled me like her own. She always listened and was there for moral support. She loved me unconditionally. She was generous. I will miss her dearly; her laugh was contagious. So many memories, so little time that I can share but millions of those memories will always be in my heart. You were our second mother."

"She was a wonderful friend. She was my accomplice in playing jokes. I have never had so much fun working with someone. She was not only my co-worker but became my confidant and close friend. I thank God for the gift of memory so that I will always remember my dearest friend."

She was the sister everyone called for advice, laughter, and delicious home cooked meals.

Nel was glamorous. From her outfits to her home. She was always put together. We will all miss her cooking, her scolding, her unconditional love, her generosity, and her no-nonsense attitude.

My aunt was my mother, friend, confidant, and mentor. I will never forget our conversations. Her heart was solid gold.  I just want to say, "I love you!" You are in my thoughts every day and that is how it will always be.

I have so much respect for my auntie. Thank you for never judging and always making me feel special. Your advice was always valued and the love you showed me will forever be treasured.
