Obituary

Marie Helen Sprofera, 95, Kansas City, MO, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 13th, 2024. Services will be held on Friday, February 16, at St. James Catholic Church. The Rosary will be prayed at 9:45 a.m. followed by Visitation at 10:00 a.m. and the Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. The family requests no flowers. Donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or St. James Catholic Church, Liberty, MO.

Marie was born August 10th, 1928, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Pasquale and Antoinette Ranallo. She married the love of her life, Carl Sprofera, in 1948 and they were happily married for 64 years until his death in 2012. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl, her daughter, Carleen, her brothers, George (Elizabeth) Ranallo, Bud Ranallo, and sisters, Pauline (Phill) Privitera, Gerry Ranallo, and Patty Cirese.

She was a homemaker and worked diligently as a secretary for her brother George, at Ranallo Electric for over twenty-five years. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, a female Catholic charity organization. Prior to joining St. James Catholic Parish, she was an active member of the Holy Cross Parish for over 60 years. She and her husband, Carl, were part of the founding members of the St. Joseph's Table, an annual celebration of the Feast of St. Joseph. Marie also helped start the St. Joseph's Table ministry at St. James, which has been going strong for the last nine years.

Marie was loved by every person who met her; they would often call her "Grandma," or "Aunt Marie," regardless if they were related to her or not. She was a bold woman who was unafraid to speak her mind and made sure to pass this trait on to her daughters, granddaughters, and great-granddaughters. To her family, she was the head matriarch, the queen, and the one we all knew we could count on for anything.

Marie is survived by her daughters and their spouses: Anita (Frank) Daniels, Carla (Mike) Frew, Marissa (John) Vernickas, grandchildren Carl Welch, Kara (Jim) Brown, Scott Welch and Lisl Clerk, Krista Daniels, Jonathan Vernickas and Sarah Unruh, Jessica Vernickas and Travis Windsor, and great-grandchildren Brittney, Brady, Anthony, Justin, and Jaxon Welch, Frankie and Lily Brown. Marie is also survived by her niece, Paula (Tom) Damas.

Pallbearers: Jim Brown, Scott Welch, Jonathan Vernickas, Travis Windsor, Brady Welch, and Frankie Brown.

Marie modeled faith, love, and respect. Everyone was always welcomed at her table. Her strength, love, and generosity will always be valued and will continue to inspire her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all the lives she touched for years to come.
