Mary Helen Sorrentino has taken the eternal holiday she so earned.

Born Maria Elena Mendoza to Robert P. and Katherine Juarez Mendoza on May 27, 1948, passed into eternal peace on March 25, 2020 at KU Medical Center, surrounded by her husband of 53 years, Tom; and their three children, Anna Marie, Bobby Joe, and Angela Suzanne. Private services will be held with immediate family and she will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery.  Please know the family will have another memorial, after the pandemic, to honor and celebrate the most amazing wife, mom, Bama/Nani, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, neighbor and co-worker with all her loved ones. Mary Helen was preceded in death by her father Robert P. Mendoza, grandson Leo Sorrentino, brother Stephen Lopez, nephew Michael Bowen and niece Leslie Mendoza.

Mary Helen met and married Tom Sorrentino in 1966 and has been there through it all. Together they had three children – Anna Marie, Bobby Joe, and Angela Suzanne. Supportive, dependable and selfless are truly not illuminating enough to describe our wife and mom.

Mary Helen was well educated and was in the last graduating class of the original grand Loretto Academy in midtown KC.  Quite accomplished, after graduating she had a distinguished lifetime career at TWA of Kansas City. Post-retirement she took on the job of coordinating product demonstrations for the Balls Food Stores. This is not enough to describe her steadfast work ethic, for throughout the traditional career she was always inclined to take on a second job or help around a family or friend's place of business, even recently taking care of her dear friend Marie Brancato. Commanding, wherever she may be.

Even with all the occupational achievements Mary Helen was able to travel extensively with her husband and family all over the world, including accompanying her father Bob on his annual Marine reunions wherever they were held in the United States.

Her true vocation came about her grandchildren. Everyday was an occasion for one of them and "Bama/Nani" provided everything. Yet there are no words for how her essence diminished when her grandson Leo Sorrentino left us all waiting.

Mary Helen is survived by her husband of 53 years, Thomas J. Sorrentino; her children Anna DeLisio (George), Bobby Joe Sorrentino, and Angela Cindrich (John); her grandchildren Alaina DeLisio, Alexis Christifano (Nick), George DeLisio IV (Miranda), Tommy Sorrentino II (Lexi), Vinny DeLisio, Patricia Allen (Devin), Marianne and Michael Cindrich, and Sam Dubinsky; great-grandchildren Joanna Hinrich, Angelo and Charlie Christifano, George DeLisio V; and daughter-in-law Giovanna.

Also surviving are her mother, Katie Mendoza; brothers Bob Mendoza (Linda), Jose Mendoza (Cindy), Charlie Lopez (Carlita); sisters Stella Zahner, Becca Konzak, and Ruth Jones (Steve); innumerable nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, neighbors, classmates, co-workers, in-laws, acquaintances, et al.

We recognize from the outpouring her singularity and will remain eternally grateful.

Mary Helen bestowed an elegant and charming quality to wherever she was present. Always gracious – a lovely human being. In her honor, please pass on a loving random act of kindness.
