Mary Ellen Scantlin, 90, went to heaven to be with her loved ones on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at NorthCare Hospice House surrounded by her family. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, February 1, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 7207 NW Hwy 9, Kansas City, MO 64152, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, February 2, at St. Therese Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Kansas City North. Contributions are suggested to NorthCare Hospice House.
Mary Ellen was born June 16, 1922, in Kansas City, MO, to Joseph and Helen (Dolan) Kellerman, and was a graduate of Cathedral Grade School and Redemptorist High School. On December 1, 1941, she married William Scantlin, Jr. She retired from Alexander & Alexander Insurance Co. Mary Ellen enjoyed cooking, traveling and her pets, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. She was a wonderful, loving mother and was affectionately known as "Grandma" or "Mammers" to her grandchildren. Her glass half full view of life, and the way she conducted it, was a gift to all who knew her.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband; her grandsons, Sean Scantlin and Nicolas Scantlin; and her brother, Edward Kellerman. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Nancy and Norman Adams, Mary Louise Anderson, William and Patricia Scantlin, Joyce Wooldridge, Stephen and Eugeneia Scantlin, Kathleen and Anthony D'Angelo, Brian and Kathryn Scantlin; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
