Mary A. Stern, 84, passed away on April 1, 2017 at the Kingswood Health Center in Kansas City, MO. From her birth in Reading, PA, in 1932 to her death on Saturday, Mary had a deep love of music. She graduated from Immaculata College in Immaculata, PA, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music in 1955, and was a member of Mu Phi Epsilon, a music sorority. Following graduation, Mary moved to Kansas City, MO, with her parents, Arthur K. and Harriet N. Stern.
A music teacher for many years, Mary attained a Master's degree in Music at the Conservatory, UMKC. She sang with the Fatima Choir, directed the choir at St. Peter's Church, and served as cantor and lector at Christ the King Church.
Mary worked in the claims department at the Social Security Administration for 35 years. She was loved bird watching, mystery novels, and traveling cross-country with her Catholic Alumni Club friends. Mary is survived by her cousin, Evelyn M. Leshock of Reading, PA; her cousin-in-law, Betty Stern of Madison, WI; and the extended Stern family.
A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Church, 8510 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, MO, on Wednesday, April 5, at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Mausoleum.
