Melchor J. Nunez, 85, passed away September 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 5106 St John Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64124. Entombment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, 1150 N. 38th Street, Kansas City, KS 66102. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Melchor was born September 2, 1941, in Kansas City, KS to Eliceo and Dolores Nunez. Melchor joined the U.S. Army Reserves in 1962 and received an honorable discharge in 1968.

Melchor worked many years for Montgomery Ward until its closing, later continuing his career with TWA / American Airlines before retiring.  His lifelong interest in technology began at age 18, when he started working with early computer systems, then known as Tabulation Equipment.

A devoted Catholic, Melchor lived his life as a true reflection of Christ's love—caring deeply for his family, giving generously to others, and offering kindness rooted firmly in his faith. His greatest joy was ensuring his loved ones were protected, supported, and deeply cherished. He was a wonderful father, father-in-law, grandfather, uncle, and friend, and the warmth he brought into the world will never be forgotten.

Melchor enjoyed traveling the world with his daughter Natalie, later continuing those adventures with her family.  He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, spending time with Natalie's dogs, and his daily workouts at the YMCA.

Melchor was preceded in death by his parents Eliceo and Dolores Nunez; brothers Rodolpho and Rudy Nunez; and sisters Elvira Rangel, Virginia Dominguez, Celia Martinez, and Mary Quiroga.

He is survived by his daughter Natalie Nunez Rodriguez (John); granddaughter Elysia "Leesie" Rodriguez; brother Eliceo Nunez Jr; longtime companion Delores "Lola" Martinez; stepson Michael Folkert (Becky); and many nieces and nephews.
