Michael Joseph Aschwanden, 73, Lee's Summit, MO, passed away January 9, 2018. A celebration of his life will be 12 p.m. Saturday, January 20, at 2821 Tepee Ave., Independence, MO 64057.

Mike was born August 6, 1944, to the late Frank and Patricia Aschwanden. He worked in the construction industry for over 50 years and was a very good painter – but an even better person. Our Dad was our hero and our protector and taught us how to be good, decent people. "Mighty Mike" had a voice that, when he wanted, was so loud and powerful it would fill the room. He was an exceptionally good human being who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

Mike is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sue Aschwanden; his daughters, Karen Aschwanden (Chris Lawrence), Barbara Aschwanden, and Mindy Smiley (Shawn Vandenberg); his grandchildren, Stevie Mallatt (Matt), Tyler Morris (Sarah Harvey), Jozie Mae Smiley, and Joseph Smiley; his great-grandchildren, Charli Sue and Mikey; numerous other family members; and the Holmes Street Gang.
