Michael Wayne Beard, 72, passed peacefully at home on April 23, 2026.
He was born on March 10, 1954, Michael lived a life marked by dedication to his work, his faith, and the simple joys that brought him happiness.
Michael graduated from Van Horn High School in 1972 and went on to earn a degree in Chemistry from Rockhurst College. He dedicated 32 years of service to KC Power & Light, where he built a long and respected career.
A devoted member of the former St. Ann's Catholic Church in Independence, Missouri, Michael's faith remained an important part of his life. Following his retirement, he gave back to his community as a volunteer at the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium, where he worked twice a week in the horticulture department and made many friends.
Michael found great joy in gardening, especially in growing fig trees, and had a lifelong love of Disney and trains and family. He also enjoyed swimming and spending time in peaceful, familiar routines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Gloria (Mancini) Beard, and his sister, Vickie Maria Beard.
He is survived by his brother, Ernest Beard, and sister-in-law, Paula Beard; his niece Angela Classen and her husband Bobby, nephew, Nicholas Beard; his nieces Maria Hudson and her husband Logan, Michelle Witkowski and her husband Casey; as well as his great-nephew, Nikhil Classen, and great-nieces, Hensley and Harlow Hudson.
Michael will be remembered for his quiet dedication, kind spirit, and the care he showed to the people and passions in his life.
Services will be held on Friday, May 1, at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Independence, MO. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by the Rosary at 10:00 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Saint Mary's Cemetery.
