Michael Charles O'Laughlin, 69, of Gladstone, Missouri passed away at home on September 22, 2020 from pancreatic cancer.

Michael was born on December 23, 1950 to Russell and Patricia (Donahue) O'Laughlin in Kansas City, Missouri.  Michael was preceded in death by his parents, 13 uncles, 9 aunts and 8 cousins.  He is survived by 2 sisters and brother in-laws.  Deborah & Ronald Sieve and Mary Sanders (Kyle Cummins).  Nephews and nieces: Brian Sieve, Jennafer (Jasper) Mirabile, Goddaughter Amy (Luke) McNeil, Katie (John) Bucher, Brittany (Andrew) Robb and Brandon Sieve.  Great nephews and nieces: Paul, Jordon & Leonard Mirabile; Gabriella, Jacob & Caleb McNeil; Jack & Layla Bucher.  8 aunts, 3 uncles, 49 cousins and the love of his life, Molly Nickle.

Mike attended St. Charles & St. Gabriel's grade schools, St. Pius X High School (Class of '69), and Benedictine & Rockhurst (Class of '73) Colleges.  Michael owned O'Laughlin Press in North Kansas City, back packed around Greece, was in a band "The Swanks" in high school and cut a record 'Time Goes on Now Its Gone.'  He was the worlds most published author in the field of Irish Genealogy that included 60 books, hundreds of newsletters, 300 broadcast episodes and 400 videos since 1978.  He founded the Irish Genealogical Foundation and the Irish Roots Café, was a world leader in Irish Genealogy and history with a monthly audience of over 100,000 listeners and CD's with the Irish Roots Café House Band. Mike was a tour guide in Ireland and had a DNA user group with Family Tree DNA.  He produced 8 hedge school CDs, 30 genealogy song video's, 300 podcasts in 6 fields of study, 1000 articles in columns and newsletters, and was a performing musician & lecturer.  Mike was also the publisher of 'The KC Top 100,' Sean Nos Singer in the Irish language and ranked #1 in the US for Celtic artist on reverbnation.com in 2012.  Mike's greatest passions in life were anything & everything to do with the Irish Community, including but not limited to Irish culture & history, music, Missouri history, ancient sites & discoveries throughout the world.  He loved to go 'antiquing', which turned into such an enjoyable hobby for him & Molly.  They opened a booth at the River Market Antique Mall named "Mike & Molly's".  Lastly, family was very dear to Mike and he spent lots of time with his great nephews & nieces, sharing his wisdom and even picking them up from school once a week for the last two decades!

Funeral services will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church on Monday; September 28, 2020 with viewing at 9am and the funeral mass at 10am (6415 NE Antioch Rd; Gladstone, MO).  Burial to follow at White Chapel Cemetery.  Masks and social distancing are required for the services.
