James Michael (Mike) Stewart, 80, found peace on Friday, November 19, 2021, comforted by his loving wife Carol and daughter Amy.  Mike is survived by his brothers Gary Stewart (Ione) and David Stewart (Judy), lovingly remembered by his children Michelle Spencer, Abby Powell (Gary), John Stewart, Amy Gurss (Todd), and cherished by his grandchildren Adam Spencer, Amanda Powell, Jacob Stewart, Connor Gurss, Cameron Gurss, and great-grandson Dexter Spencer; his mother-in-law Rose Marie Falco, sister-in-law Mary Jo Zaccagnini, and brother-in-law Joe Falco (Kathy), as well as many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.  Mike was preceded in death by his son James Patrick Stewart and grandson Evan Michael Spencer.

Mike was born on April Fool's Day, 1941 to Cecil and Dorothy Stewart in St. Louis, Missouri. His family moved to Kansas City in 1951. At the age of 10, he had his first job and at 14 bought his first car which began his lifelong love of old cars. He graduated high school as a Wyandotte High School Bulldog in 1959 and shortly after married and had five children. On July 19, 1980, he married Carol Falco. They spent 41 blessed and happy years together.

A member of the Teamsters Union, Mike worked at Graves Truckline for 20 years before deciding to open Stewart Bros. Body Shop.  He fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning a business which also provided him the opportunity to repair and restore his personal collection of antique cars. Upon retirement in 2010, he continued to work on cars in his home garage and developed a new talent for wood graining antique car parts. He was a member of the Heart of America Plymouth Club serving a term as President.

Mike's greatest joy in life was his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. Carol always said they came before anyone and anything, including her, but he denied it. Mike was a friend to everyone, a father figure, a mentor and a teacher to many. There were no boundaries to his generosity, always willing to help anyone.  He thoroughly enjoyed recounting stories of his life, telling funny jokes, watching old movies, and listening to music of all kinds.

In honor of Mike, the family will be taking one last cruise around K.C in his cherished 1938 Plymouth pickup.
