Nadine Burnett, 91, of St. Anthony's parish in Northeast Kansas City, MO, died Sunday, February 24, 2013.

She was the mother of 10 children. She graduated from Loretto Academy and went to a convent intending to become a nun. She decided her true vocation was mother. She worked in Washington DC during WWII as an airline teletype operator. She returned to KC late in the war and worked for the Rock Island Railroad in teletype. She met and married John Burnett the father of her ten children. John died in 1973 leaving her with 5 children still in school. She commented at the time she just had to live eight more years to get her youngest through high school. She accomplished that and much more in her life. She was proud that all her children attended Catholic schools and she was quite active in their school at St. Stephens. She was elected to the Jackson County Democrat Committee and served as 13th Ward Committeewoman.

She was active in Assumption parish and helped start the daycare center there. She cared for virtually all of her grandchildren in their preschool years. After Assumption merged and became St. Anthony parish she was active until her death in the ministry there. She attended daily mass during the last 15 years of her life including her last day at home. She was active in the Altar Society and was, for many years, responsible for coordinating the readers for the church. When she was taken to the hospital a week before her death one of her first actions was to arrange for lectors for Mass the following day.

Nadine was an avid bingo player the last twenty years of her life. Until the very end of her life she played three nights a week. Her friends at the American Legion will miss her very much.

She was the youngest and last survivor of 10 siblings. She is the mother of 10 children: John & Ingrid Burnett, Robert & Margene Burnett, Jim & Kelly Burnett, Liz & Ed Hazlett, Mary & Jim Aycock, Grace Thomas, Greta & Chris O'Brien, Carla & Joe Foley, two of her sons, Mike and Edward Burnett, are deceased. She has 22 Grandchildren: Sean Burnett, Betsy Cochran, Nicki Powers, Timothy Burnett, Vanessa Burnett-Hardy, Joe Mike Burnett, Eric Burnett, Kevin Burnett, Travis Burnett, Justin Burnett, Kim Shawhan, Tim Hazlett, Katie Taylor, Mark Blanton, Ryan James, David James, Kyle Thomas, Kelsey Thomas, Keri O'Brien, Darci O'Brien, Jack O'Brien, Emma Foley; 19 Great-Grandchildren: Shane Powers, Jonathon Burnett, Shelyna Bishop, Claudia Bishop, Tommie Hardy, Alyssa Hardy, Sydney Burnett, Alayna Burnett, Nathan Moreno, Karleigh Burnett, Makenzie Burnett, Mekailah Burnett, Payton Hazlett, Joshua Shawhan, Peter Taylor, Luke Taylor, Kaden Thomas, Chase Thomas, Carter Thomas; and one Great-Great Granddaughter: Saischa Bishop.

The Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday morning, March 2, at St. Anthony Catholic Church 318 Benton Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64124. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 p.m. Friday, March 1, at Passantino Bros.
