Pam Knight, 76, of Prairie Village, KS entered the Kingdom of Heaven on July 14, 2026, and has finally been reunited with Steve, her best friend and husband of nearly 49 years.

Peggy Allene Markey was born in Kansas City, MO on December 17, 1949, to James Markey and Allene (Ezell) Markey. She was given the name Peggy, but her initials were P.A.M., so the family called her Pam. And as a result, she was given a story that she had to explain to people for the rest of her life (insert one of Pam's famous eye rolls here - ha ha!)

As an only child of a single, working mother in the 1950's & 60's, Pam used to joke that Dick Clark was her babysitter because she spent every afternoon after school watching "American Bandstand"; this strengthened her knowledge and love of music, which she later shared with her children & grandchildren. Pam was a 1967 graduate of Southeast High School and after graduation she worked for several years as an administrative assistant.

On December 11, 1971, Pam met Steve Knight on a blind date and after a 9-day whirlwind courtship, he proposed and they married six months later on June 3, 1972, at Visitation Catholic Church in Kansas City, MO. They were inseparable until his death on February 21, 2021. They were truly best friends and they did everything together. They enjoyed live music, traveling, cooking, watching the Chiefs, and spending time with their grandchildren. They raised three daughters and Pam was a stay-at-home mom until 1988 when she began working as a nail technician, which she did for 10 years until her health required her to retire.

Pam was incredibly creative and loved a good project! She sewed clothes for her girls, made recital costumes, created countless decorations for 50+ years of birthday parties, weddings and showers, and made stockings for her children & grandchildren that are cherished to this day. She looked forward to Halloween every year and she was always determined to come up with the best costumes, especially if there was a contest involved! But her time to really shine was the Christmas season. Her tree was always beautiful, the presents were wrapped perfectly with elaborate bows & special details, and there was no such thing as too many decorations in the house. She was full of surprises and made things magical every year.

Pam's greatest joy was being a "Grammy" to her six grandchildren. A few of her favorite memories with them were going to Disney World, celebrating holidays together, and hosting slumber parties. She was proud of their accomplishments and loved them beyond measure. The 25 years she spent as their Grammy were undoubtedly the happiest of her life.

Pam will be remembered for her quick wit, fun spirit, and ability to find humor in just about anything to help lighten the mood. She took pride in finding the best gifts and funniest birthday cards, owned every obscure kitchen gadget ever invented, and could work TV and movie quotes into conversations on a daily basis. She has left us with plenty of memories to keep us laughing for years to come and she will be dearly missed.

In 2000, Pam was diagnosed with kidney disease and although it was manageable with medication for many years, it progressed and eventually a transplant became necessary. Pam received a kidney from her brother-in-law, Pete Knight, on March 6, 2020. We will be forever grateful to Pete for this gift because it not only gave us six more years with her, but after 20 years of caregiving, it allowed Steve to see her be healthy and hopeful again before he passed 11 months later.

Pam was preceded in death by her husband, Steven Knight , parents Allene Wilkes and James Markey, in-laws Bernard and Blanche Knight, and sister-in-law Ann Knight. She is survived by her three daughters Jennifer Lehr (Kevin), Prairie Village, KS,  Amy Spitaleri (Tom) and Brooke Bonadonna (Michael), Lee's Summit, MO; her six grandchildren Lauren, Leah, and Toni Spitaleri, and Mia, Joe Mike, and Sofia Bonadonna, brother-in-law Peter Knight, Buffalo, MN, nephew Matt Knight (Kristen), Cottage Grove, MN, niece Emily Hagen (Nick), Clearwater, MN, two great nephews and one great niece, and cousin Mary Ann Vowels, Lowry City, MO. Pam will also be missed by her beloved dog Quincy who has been by her side for over five years.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at KC Kidney for their compassionate and exceptional care over the last 26 years, as well as the guidance they provided for our family during some very difficult times. A special thanks also goes to the staff at Mission Chateau Senior Living in Prairie Village and Kansas City Hospice for making Pam's final days as comfortable and peaceful as possible after a long journey.

Services for Pam will be on Thursday, July 23rd at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, 130 NW Murray Rd., Lee's Summit, MO 64081. The Rosary will be prayed at 9:45 a.m., followed by Visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. with burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Raytown, MO to follow.
