Richard William Schilling, 75, of Kansas City, Missouri, entered into the arms of His Glorious Savior Thursday evening, February 9, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren.

Richard was born May 21, 1947, in St Louis, Missouri, to Ernest and Mary Margret (Higgins) Schilling. He was a high school graduate of Christian Brothers High School in 1965 and a college graduate of Northwest Missouri State University in 1969. Richard honorably served his country by joining the US Army and working as a switchboard operator. During his time in the Army, he spent 19 months deployed to South Korea. He married his sweetheart and the love of his life, Carol Miriam Nichols, on May 28th, 1977. Together they built a beautiful family, and a life sold out to Jesus.

When Richard was converted in 1979, his purpose and focus in life completely changed. The glory of Christ became focal, becoming very passionate about outreach. Richard and Carol were committed to their family/children and desired to see their children come to know the Lord. For 40+ years, Richard consistently lead his family in evening devotions. Oftentimes, strangers or friends joined in these blessed times of worship. Throughout their 45 years of marriage, Richard and Carol opened their home to over 300 individuals who were downtrodden or at the lowest points of their lives. He was active in the Pro-life community for 30 years, sidewalk counseling in front of abortion clinics and outside high schools every week. He was a loving man with upstanding character, conviction, principle, and a wonderful sense of humor that he passed on to many of his children.

Richard worked hard to provide for his family, and even through difficult seasons, he continued to be faithful in his work and service to the Lord. Although he enjoyed working with his hands, after 18 years of service at his most recent employer, working alongside 6 of his children, Richard hung up his tool belt as his health declined. He served in various roles during his time but was most known for his wise biblical counsel and love for those on the team; he was always the guy to talk to if you were struggling.

Richard is survived by his wife, Carol; his children, Michael (Johanna) of Kansas City, KS; Nathan (Karilee) of Colorado Springs, CO; Deborah (Josh) Costello, Las Vegas, NV; Andrew, Sahuarita, AZ; Elizabeth (Justin) Martinez, Las Vegas, NV; Jonathan (Rebecca) Riverside, MO; Hannah, Kansas City, MO; Matthew (Mary-Kate) Parkville, MO; David (Sarah) Riverside, MO; Mary (Luke) Cloyd, Liberty, MO; Rachel, Riverside, MO; his brothers, Jim Schilling, of Colorado Springs, CO and Robert Schilling, of St. Joseph, MO, as well as, many nieces and nephews.

Richard's 42 grandchildren: (Michael's) Isabelle, Samantha, Michael Jr., Catherine, Nicholas, Sophia, Christopher, Suzanna, Joshua, Gabriel, Anna, Alessandra, Matthew, Liliana; (Nathan's) William, Wesley, Jackson, Austin, Natalie; (Deborah's) Emily, Seth, Ethan, Jonathan; (Andrew's) Kiersten, Julia, Justin, Aiden; (Elizabeth's) Mya; (Jonathan's) Asher, Katelyn, Emma, Olivia, Brynlee, Grant; (Matthew's) Maximus, Alexandria, Jordyn; (David's) Ainsley, Myra, Gideon, Emmitt; (Mary's) Baby Cloyd due July 2023.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Mary Margaret Schilling.

Through his long battle with cancer, he continued to point people to Christ. His prayers were rich with the truth of God's word; his salvation was in Christ alone. He fought the good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith. Henceforth there was laid up for him a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, awarded to him on February 9th, 2023. Richard's hope was in heaven, where he is now at rest.

Funeral Services will be held at Faith Community Church on Tuesday, February 14, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
