Rick Lynn George, 67, Kansas City, MO, went to celebrate Christmas with the Lord on December 24, 2020. As a liver transplant recipient his life was extended and lived to fulfill and enjoy 21 years more.

Born in San Antonio, Texas to an Air Force family, Rick spent his childhood travelling through the U.S. and abroad.  As the family was transferred to different regions, Rick attended many schools in Grand Forks, North Dakota, Belton, Missouri, Corvallis, Oregon, and Syracuse, New York. He made many friends and participated in sports such as baseball, basketball, bowling, and soccer.  During this time, he attended a Catholic school where he learned about and grew his strong Catholic Faith. He graduated from Cicero High School and attended college.  Continuing the family tradition of service to our country, he enlisted in the Army.  He served in Vietnam and in Germany as a radar technician and was proud to be a Veteran.

When he returned home, Rick learned to program computers and that skill helped him in the communication industry, namely cell phones.  He worked for Sprint, Cerner, and DST. During this time, he added golf to his list of sports.

During his retirement, he met, fell in love, and married Mary.  He loved to sit in his truck and listen to the Royals and Chiefs games on the radio. Neighbors became his friends. His riding lawn mower was precious to him and enjoyed taking care of his lawn.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents Donald D. and Dorothy A. (Carr) George, and his son Christopher B. George. He is survived by his wife who will miss him dearly, Mary DiGiovanna George. He will be missed and remembered by his brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Brenda George of Springfield, MO; his daughter, Jessica Burks; four grandchildren Matthew, MacKenzie, Grace and Callen; three great-grandchildren Adalina, Don and Louie; and sister-in-law Laura Ann DiGiovanna.  He also leaves the family dog Betsy.

Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. with the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 8, at St. James Catholic Church, Liberty, MO . Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Kansas City North. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project .
