Robert "Bob" William Thies, 70, Independence, MO, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013, at his home. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 10113 E. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64053, where the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to St. Ann Catholic Church.

Bob was born February 26, 1943, to the late Raymond and Margaret Thies. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and retired in 1995 after 29 years of service with the Kansas City, MO Fire Department. Bob was preceded in death by his son, Tom Thies.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Janet Marie Thies, of the home; daughters, Lisa (Dave) Fox and Jennifer (Matt) Murray; step-children, Jeffrey (Tammy) Stick, Melissa (Jerry) Hillard, Amy (Donivan) Nelson, Richard (Jennifer) Rector, and Susan Bliss; 17 grandchildren; and sisters, Barbara (Dan) Baker, Cathleen (John) Wise, and Sue (Jim) Bareis.
