Rose (Ancona) Campobasso passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023. Services will be held Monday, April 3, at St. Andrew The Apostle Catholic Church, 6415 NE Antioch Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Mausoleum in Raytown, Missouri.

Rose was born April 8, 1924, to Charles and Mary (Nasello) Ancona. Rose tragically lost her father, mother and beloved only brother John before she was 10 years old. She was lovingly raised by her aunts and uncles and grew up alongside her cousins, who she considered her siblings.

Rose married Tony Campobasso, her childhood sweetheart, and the love of her life, on April 4, 1945. Their 76-year marriage was one of total devotion to each other. Only when one or the other was in the hospital did they ever spend a night apart.

Rose's greatest gifts were her sons John and Chuck, who she and Tony raised in Kansas City's North End. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her "Joya Badas and Badus," who she loved with all her heart.

Rose took care of the family home until she went to work to help ensure her sons' educations. She served as Head Cashier at her precious Woolf Brothers department store, where she worked for more than 30 years. When the store closed, she began working as a Cast Member at the Disney Store, where she was hailed as an exemplary employee until she retired at age 80. Rose's work ethic was a product of survival of hardships in her lifetime: the death of both of her parents and her only sibling at a young age, a husband who served in the South Pacific during World War II, even a home struck by a tornado. Even working full-time, Rose never neglected her passion for her favorite activity: making sure she kept a spotless house. Her strict cleaning regimen was well-known by family and friends.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her brother; her beloved aunts and uncles who raised her as their own, Jack and Giovanna Ancona and Millie and Alex Presta; her cousins who she considered her siblings, Rose and John Sorrentino, John and Stella Ancona, Sam and Susie Ancona, Genevieve and Charles Gilbert, and Joe Ancona; brothers and sisters-in-law Ralph "Joe Biff" and Charlotte Campobasso, Walter and JoAnn Campobasso, sisters and brother-in-law Antoinette "Lee" and Robert Mitchell, Josephine and Don Girard and Mary and Vince DiLorenzo.

Rose is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Dr. John and Betty Lou Campobasso, and Chuck and Kathy Campobasso; grandchildren and their spouses Rozanne Sutherland (Scott), Suzanne McKelvy (Tony), Chrissy Payne (Matt), Anthony S. Campobasso (Mindy), Anthony J. Campobasso (Jenna), Michelle Weeks (Dan), and Christina Campobasso; and great-grandchildren Joe, Elizabeth and Johnny Witherow, Michael, Maggie and Katie Payne, Christina and Abby McKelvy, John and Vivienne Campobasso, Anthony and Ava Weeks, and Charles Snow.

Rose's family would like to thank the physicians and staff at McCrite Plaza at Briarcliff and Kansas City Hospice for their excellent care.

Rose will be remembered for her strength, kindness, compassion, and unwavering Catholic faith. She was one of a kind and will be greatly missed.
