Roy D. Ward was suddenly taken from his loving family on September 21, 2015. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, September 24, at the First Baptist Church of Plattsburg, 501 W. Broadway, Plattsburg, MO 64477, where a funeral service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 25, at Resurrection Cemetery, Kansas City North.

Roy was a devoted husband and father to his children. Jacob, Shelby, and Sarah loved their dad with all their hearts. Roy seldom missed an activity his kids were involved in. If someone was cheering for the other side, Roy would cheer louder for the Tigers. When Roy wasn't at a kid's activity he was on the lake driving the boat and fishing. He enjoyed inviting people up to the lake for a "boat ride." He enjoyed it even more if he could convince you to tube. Getting you outside of the wake was the goal.

Roy worked for BNSF railroad for 16 years. He loved his job and was admired by his colleagues. Roy received an Employee of the Year award in 2014 for his work on the deployment of the Stark digital radio system in Los Angeles.

Roy was a proud member of the Tribe of Mic-o-Say and an Eagle Scout with Troop 450. His tribal name was Proud Souring Eagle. When Jacob followed in his Dad's footsteps by joining the Tribe and earning his Eagle Scout, Roy was so proud and awestruck that Jacob wanted to be just like his dad. Jacob's tribal name was of course Son of Proud Souring Eagle.

Roy never met a stranger. "I was saying "come on, who is that anyway?"

Roy and I celebrated our twenty second wedding anniversary in May. He loved me from the moment he met me. I, on the other hand, wasn't so convinced. He managed to convince me that we were meant to be together. Over the years Roy and I would squabble about what church to attend and could really never settle on one. Up until about a month ago, we found The First Baptist Church of Plattsburg and Pastor Shelton. Thank the Lord that we found our Christian path, even if it was so late in Roy's life.
