Salvatore "Sam" Raccuglia, 87, passed away at NorthCare Hospice House. He was born in Kansas City, MO to Carl and Jennie Raccuglia. In 1947 he married Margaurite Valenti, they were married for 63 years. She preceded him in death in 2010.
Sam was also preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws; and infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth. Survivors include his daughter Jean Ferguson; his son Carl Raccuglia; grandchildren, Charlene Lee and Jason Younger; great-grandchildren, Brittany Green, Danielle Green, and Austin Lee; "the light of his life" great-great-granddaughter Rylee Morgan Lemons; brother and sister-in-law, Dominic and Mary Raccuglia; sister and brother-in-law, Antoinette and Blackie Beth; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Anthony and Kathryn Valenti; and many nieces, nephews and friends who loved him and will miss him dearly.
Sam served with the U.S. Army Constabulary in the European theater of World War II and he was a member of Local 15 of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union. Sam loved his profession. He was a graduate of De La Salle High School and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Sam was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed playing golf and tennis. He also loved to joke, laugh and smoke cigars, preferably at the same time.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, October 30, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124, where the Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 31, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 911 E. Missouri Ave., Kansas City, MO 64106. Entombment will follow in Mount Olivet Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice.
