Salvatore Anthony Sciara of Gladstone, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2025, surrounded by his children, just as he wished. He was 85 years old.

Sal was born on July 23, 1940, to Joseph "Joe Ace" and Maria Angela "Angie" (DiMaggio) Sciara. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 55 years, Geraldine (Risalvato) Sciara.

An old school man with a HUGE heart, Sal lived a full life centered on family, hard work, and sheer determination. He served in the Marine Corps Reserves in the early 1960s in service to our country. He spent 31 years dedicated to the Ford Motor Company, working from 1959 until his retirement in 1990, where he made literally thousands of friends. Known for his independent spirit and entrepreneurial drive, Sal embraced "side gigs" before they were a thing, holding a real estate broker's license, owning and managing rental property, and dabbling in miscellaneous ventures. In his 40s and 50s, Sal discovered a passion for health and fitness, successfully completing several 10Ks and a half marathon. After retiring from Ford, he realized a dream by purchasing a house and boat at the Lake of the Ozarks, where he loved hosting his family and friends. His favorite form of recreation was being a constant presence at countless sporting events involving his children and grandchildren over the years, always ready to share his signature "helpful" advice.

After suffering a major stroke in 2007, Sal, who was a very independent man, had to fight hard to relearn many everyday tasks, demonstrating his true spirit as a fighter right up until the end. He was a devoted Catholic and a faithful member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

Sal leaves behind his brother, Dr. Ross A. Sciara and his wife Mary (DiCapo) Sciara; his sister Josephine Sciara-Meyers; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Paul Gimmarro, and John and Patty Risalvato; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Sal is also survived by his children: Joseph Vincent Sciara, Salvatore Anthony Sciara Jr., and Florence Sciara-Simpson and her husband, David Simpson. His legacy lives on through his beloved grandchildren: Frank Vincent Pisciotta (Allison), Joanna Pisciotta-Prather (Nate), Salvatore Anthony Pisciotta, Salvatore Joseph Sciara (Samantha), Charles James Sciara (Victoria), Thomas Ross Sciara (Lana), Eva Maureen Sciara, and Dean John Sciara. Sal also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren—Gia Lee Sciara, Margo Rose Sciara, Thomas Ross Sciara Jr., Joseph Paul Sciara, Rosemarie Maureen Sciara, Gianna Marie Sciara, and Joseph Vincent Sciara—with one more, Thomas Salvatore Prather, due in March.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the many caregivers over the years, including those at CareNetwork in Gladstone and Elevate Hospice, for their kindness and incredible dedication.

Services will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 900 NE Shady Lane, Kansas City, Missouri 64118. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 13, beginning with the Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and concluding at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 14, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Sal's seven grandsons will serve as his pallbearers.
