Sam R. DiMaggio, 80, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home.

Born on June 30, 1945, to Ross and Virginia DiMaggio, Sam lived a life defined by service, family, friendship, and laughter. Sam proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to the Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department, where he faithfully served the community for 31 years before retiring.

Retirement suited Sam well. He enjoyed staying active and social, spending time with friends, golfing, playing cards, and cheering on the Kansas City Royals. Anyone who knew Sam would describe him as a true character with a unique personality and a way of doing things that was entirely his own. He loved teasing family and friends and never met a stranger. His circle of friends came from all walks of life, a testament to his ability to connect with people wherever he went.

Sam was generous to a fault and rarely missed an opportunity to slip a toy or a few dollars to his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in those he loved. He was especially proud of his son, Hugh, who followed in his footsteps with a career in the KCMO Fire Department.

Sam was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia J. DiMaggio; his parents, Ross and Virginia DiMaggio; and his sister, Sarie Jackson.

He is survived by his son Hugh Oldham; his grandchildren Aidan and Dax; his siblings Phil DiMaggio and his wife Gloria, RoseMarie Rau, Jeanne Nistendirk and her husband Dave, Kathy DiMaggio-Fuqua and her husband Frank, and Anthony DiMaggio. He is also survived by his special cousin Mary Margaret Petralie and her husband PJ; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will cherish his memory.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Tom for his friendship and assistance during Sam's final months. They also wish to thank Ron Martin, cousin Phil Joe DiMaggio and his wife Alma, the staff of Northland Rehabilitation, and the compassionate caregivers of Ascend Hospice for the care, kindness, and support they provided to Sam and his family.

Sam's legacy of service, generosity, humor, and love for family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
