Saverio
Maenza
Jan 22, 1927 — Sep 24, 2020
Saverio "Sal" Maenza, 93, passed away on September 24, 2020 from Covid-19. He was born on January 22, 1927 in Camporeale, Sicily, and was preceded in death by his wife Linda, sisters Francesca (Frank) Occhipinti, Guilia (Calogero) Armato, Giuseppa (Giuseppe) Fontana, brother Salvatore Maenza, brother-in-law Giacomo Renzino, and grandson Anthony Brancato.
Sal immigrated to the United States in 1962 after he married the love of his life Linda, knowing her for only two weeks. They came to the U.S. not knowing the language and made a life for themselves. They were married for 50 years before she entered the pearly gates of heaven. Over the years, Saverio worked at the Meat Packing House, Hydro Conduit Corp and later for Robinson Potato Supply Company where he retired. During his years working, he also moonlighted as a maintenance man for apartment complexes on the Plaza. Saverio was a hard-working man and did all he could to provide for his family. When he retired it was short lived as he went back to work for Dole Foods and then worked well into his late 80s for C&C Produce. In addition, he was everyone's fix-it man and car mechanic. There was nothing he couldn't pull apart and put back together, making it work better than it was before. His passion in life was making his homemade wine and sharing it with everyone he knew.
Saverio is survived by his two daughters, Enza (Phil) Brancato, Rosie (Mike) Crawford; and son, Joe (Christina) Maenza; six grandchildren, Linda and Gabrielle Brancato, Michael and Nicholas Crawford, Rosaria and Sophia Maenza; sisters-in-law Giovanna Renzino and Concetta Maenza; and many loved nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Thank you to the Linden Woods Village staff for taking incredible care our dad for the past year and half. You treated him with the utmost respect and loving care. We would also like to thank Lumicare Hospice for your care and guidance for Saverio, and the family in his final days.
Visitation will be at 11:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 900 NE Shady Lane Dr., Kansas City, MO. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum. Masks and social distancing are required for the services.
