Shirley Lee LaBruzzo, 93, passed away at Linden Woods Village in Gladstone, Missouri on March 20, 2023.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jack and son Nick, her parents Thomas and Gertrude Garrison, her brothers Johnny, Thomas and Danny Garrison, and sister Barbara Hixson, brothers-in-law Donald Hixson and Al Hammes, and her nephew Chad Garrison.

Shirley was born in Kansas City, Missouri on July 3, 1929, graduated from Northeast High School, and married Jack LaBruzzo on March 3, 1955, and raised two sons and a daughter.

Survivors include her children, Jacque (Ken) Slagle, Dr. Thomas (Sallie) LaBruzzo; daughters-in-law, Christine Moore and Christi LaBruzzo; her grandchildren, Amy Slagle, Alex Slagle (fiancé Alexis Banegas), Ashley (Ryan) Hammontree, Jackie LaBruzzo (fiancé Anthony Civitate), Nicholas (Becky) LaBruzzo and Kelly LaBruzzo; great-grandson, Elijah Hammontree; her siblings, Marilyn Hammes, Ron (Kathy) Garrison, Glenn (Lynn) Garrison, Michael Garrison; her sister-in-law Dr. Ronilue Garrison; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Shirley was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  She cherished her times with her large family, especially, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and their many family card nights.  Shirley was blessed to have made so many close and dear friends throughout her years working at Macy's and Dillard's.  She also belonged to a bingo club that met monthly for over 50 years.  Shirley was very fortunate to experience trips to England with her sister, sisters-in-law and family friend, Sheila Schmidt, she treasured those times and memories.  Shirley enjoyed playing card games and was an avid reader.

We would like to thank Traditions Hospice for their compassionate care.  We especially want to thank the staff at Linden Woods Village for all the love and excellent care they gave Shirley over the last 2 years.  She thought of Linden Woods Village as her home and the residents and staff as her extended family.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24, in the Mausoleum at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Raytown, Missouri. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to The ALS Association Mid-America Chapter, 6405 Metcalf Avenue, Suite 205, Overland Park, Kansas 66202.
