Obituary

Sophie (Domozych) Klim of Independence, MO, passed peacefully with her only child by her side in the early morning hours of May 14, 2014.  She was 99 years old.

Born on July 4, 1914, in Scranton, PA, she was one of seven children born of Polish immigrants, Joseph and Anastasia Domozych.  Sophie lived on a farm outside of Scranton, PA, during her childhood years.  In the 1930's she met and married her husband John Klim in Brooklyn, NY, where they raised their only child, Robert (Bob) John Klim.  Upon her husband's death in 1978 Sophie made the big move "out west" to live closer to her son and his family in Independence, MO.   In 2004 she moved in with her son and daughter-in-law where she happily stayed until her failing strength made it necessary to move her into the Villages of Jackson Creek this past year.

Sophie, "Nanny" as she is fondly remembered by her grandchildren, was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, known for her authentic Polish cooking, her staunch independence, and her strong Christian faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her brothers, Walter and Joe; and her sisters, Stella Cegielka and Mamie Hamm.

She is survived by her only child, Bob and his wife of 53 years, Barbara, of Independence; a brother, Stanley, and a sister Florence Hughes, both of Scranton, PA; her grandchildren, Robby and wife Annie of Lee's Summit, MO, Steve and wife Jill of Andover, KS, Kevin and wife Kelly of Kansas City, MO; and Lora Brewster (Klim) and husband Ben of Casselberry, FL; and her six great-grandchildren, Derek and Jackson Brewster, Kaleigh and Kaden Klim, Cameron and Brendan Klim;  and great-great-grandchild, Omni Foster.

A memorial in her honor will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 7th with inurnment at Trinity Episcopal located at 409 N. Liberty Street, Independence, MO 64050. Donations to the church in lieu of flowers.
