Steve Rellihan, 58, beloved husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle, friend, teacher, and coach passed away Thursday, November 9 ^th , 2017, peacefully in his sleep.  The Divine Mercy Chaplet will be recited at 3:30 p.m. followed by Visitation until 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 12 ^th at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 309 Benton Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, November 13 ^th , at the St. Anthony Church.  Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Anthony's Parish.

Steve will forever be remembered by his loving wife and best friend, Becky, and their children:  John, his wife Natalie and their two daughters, Brooke and Sydney; Sean, his wife Lena and their three daughters, Teresa, AnnaMarie, and Josefina; Bridget, her husband Neal and their expected baby boy; his daughter, Tara; and his dog, Bear.  He will also be remembered by his brothers, Jimmy and John Robert; his sisters, Jolene Ruth, Janice Cox, Jeanne Serrone, and Joyce Arthur; his father and mother in-law, Glenn & Joan Parks; numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Norma Rellihan, and brother, Joe.

Steve was loved and admired by everyone he met. One of his many passions was teaching and coaching at St. Mary's and Bishop Miege High Schools. He made an impact on every student who had the privilege of being taught and coached by him. Steve's enthusiasm for math was contagious and really made learning fun. Many students remember him for his love of teaching with his overhead projector and his famous blue hands from rubbing off the overhead ink.  He could not go out to dinner or to an event without running into someone he taught or coached who wanted to come tell him what an impact he had on their life.

For everyone who knew Steve, they knew that family was most important to him. His love for his wife and high school sweetheart, Becky, was truly one of a kind and admired by all. Even after 36 years, he still looked at her with the same passionate heart and loving smile and never missed a chance to tell her of his love. His other unending love was for his children, the close bond between them, and pride in who they have become. He was especially proud of the new title they gave him, Papa. You should have seen the love, laughter, and silliness when he spent time with his grandchildren.

Steve also loved hosting parties, holidays, and Sunday family dinners at his house. Being in his backyard, sitting by the fire with friends, Bruce Springsteen blaring in the backyard was his happy place. He also loved Harley trips with Becky, the many trips to the lake, beach, Colorado, Ireland with his family, and being his children's on-call repairman.  He was an ardent fan of Mizzou, the Royals and the Chiefs and never missed a chance to cheer them on.  And St. Patrick's Day held a special place in his heart.  He loved working on the float with family and friends, being in the parade and partying with friends afterwards.

If you knew Steve, you will always remember his contagious laugh, smile, bear hugs, hard back pats, cheek pinches, and tongue bites.  He had a special gift for knowing just what encouragement each person needed to hear and then making a point to give that, whether you were his child, a student or a complete stranger. He will forever be your biggest cheerleader.
