Teresa Marie
Tulipana
Oct 29, 1963 — Jun 18, 2022
Our beloved Teresa, born October 29, 1963, in Kansas City, MO, went to her eternal reward on June 18, 2022. She was preceded in death by her mother, Carolyn Wyhs. She is survived by her father and stepmother, Frank and Lisa Tulipana, of Henderson, KY; stepfather, Bruce Wyhs, of Overland Park, KS; grandmother, Helen Tulipana, of Kansas City, MO; sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Keith Grochowsky, and cherished nephew and niece, Ian and Erin Grochowsky, all of Overland Park, KS; her special friend Todd Kolenda of Warrensburg, MO; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Teresa graduated from Pompton Lakes High School in Pompton Lakes, NJ. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees along with her Doctorate in Education at the University of Kansas. She spent 26 years in public education serving Turner School District in Kansas City, KS and Park Hill School District in Kansas City, MO. Teresa was recognized as Missouri Distinguished Principal in 2003. In 2004, she was honored as National Distinguished Principal and was recognized at a reception in our nation's capital. In 2014 she made a career move to be a leadership mentor and coach for educators, and most recently used her skills at Mosaic Life Care.
Although a big part of her life was her career, Teresa had many other interests including crafts, reading, and live performances. She always wanted to try something new. She also owned almost every board game that was ever invented.
Her church family and her friends were very important to her. Teresa's family is very thankful that she found an extended family within her community. Family was very important to Teresa. She enjoyed family reunions and get togethers. Her major joy was her niece and nephew, Erin and Ian. Her impact on the world is much larger than this obituary can describe. We apologize that Teresa was unable to compose this, as it certainly would have been much better. We miss her so much.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at her beloved North Heartland Community Church, located at 4800 NW 88th Street, Kansas City, MO 64154, on Thursday, June 23rd. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a Service at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Dr. Teresa Tulipana Growth Fund at North Heartland Community Church .
