Terry was born December 14 th , 1942, in Trenton, Missouri, and was a resident of Kansas City, Missouri. He became a firefighter with the Kansas City Fire Department in March 1968 where he spent 30 years of his time. Terry was on Truck 5 for 25 years, followed by two years on Truck 1 where he retired as a Fire Apparatus Operator in December 1997.  Terry loved being a fireman. He made many lifelong friends and gained many more family members. Being a fireman became a family tradition that has carried on for three generations. This made him extremely proud.  Terry married June Howard on January 3 rd , 1973, and they merged their family of six together.  June and Terry were married for 47 years until she passed away on February 21 st , 2020.

In 1973 they purchased their business, Northeast Lawn Mower, which was a small engine repair shop. This became a family business where many of their family members grew up working and learning the family business as well.  N.E.L.M became a fixture of the Northeast area where many residents knew the Hertzog's and were sad to see them close in 2005.

Terry and June were parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Northeast where many of their children and grandchildren attended school. They were very involved in the parish throughout their lives and loved giving back to the community through the church.

Terry and June loved to travel.  Terry was very adventurous and had many hobbies. He enjoyed going to classic car shows, riding dirt bikes, partaking in motocross and motorcycle hill climbing, scuba diving, gardening, and his love of fishing took him to many exciting places. His adventurous nature created so many memories with June, their family, and many close life-long friends.  Many of their trips were in their RV and once Terry retired, he and June became snowbirds often traveling to San Angelo, Texas to visit family and friends for months on end.

Terry was preceded in death by his wife June ; parents Homer and Marjorie (Scott) Hertzog; in-law's Earl and Dorothy (Welch) Howard; and daughter-in-law Kim Hertzog.
