Obituary

Thomas D. Whiteman, 85, of Kansas City, Missouri, lost his battle to cancer on September 27, 2016, surrounded by his family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 6, at Mount Olivet Mausoleum, 7601 Blue Ridge, Raytown, MO 64138. The Family asks that donations in Tom's memory be directed to the John Knox Village Hospice Care Center.

Tom was employed by Armco Steel for 44 years, and was an elected representative for the United Steel Workers Union. He was always there to help his friends with anything they needed and was a great influence in many lives. He enjoyed life raising his vegetable gardens and growing beautiful roses. He also enjoyed writing poetry and working crossword puzzles. He loved spending time in the woods Quail hunting, mushroom hunting or just a long walk with his K-9 sweetheart "Daisy", but his real passion for life was Martial Arts. He was a 6th Degree Black Belt with Bushidokan and has trained hundreds of fighters for nearly 50 years and he will be missed by many in the Martial Arts circle of Black Belt Champions.

Tom is survived by his beautiful wife of 61 years, Lois; his son Michael; sister, Barbra; and many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Naomi Whiteman; brother, Paul; sweet sister-in-law "Mama Zeke"; and two of his children, Cindy and Tommy D. Whiteman Jr.

The Family would like to thank John Knox Village for the amazing care given to Tom, and would like to thank you for your thoughts, prayers and contributions.
