Obituary

Toan Ngoc Trinh, 62, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Toan was born on January 7th, 1964, in My Tho Province, Vietnam, to Trong Ngoc Trinh and Dinh Thi Trac. In 1979, at the age of 15, Toan and his family courageously journeyed from Vietnam by boat in search of a new life. Toan and family lived as refugees in Kuku Island, Indonesia, before eventually immigrating to the United States and settling in Kansas City, Missouri. Kansas City became home, where Toan built a meaningful life centered around family, music, and shaped by his lifelong passion for building and creating.

Toan graduated from the University of Missouri–Kansas City in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and went on to have a successful career in computer engineering. For more than 20 years, he worked as a director and consultant in computer science researcher.

After retiring from computer, Toan embraced his entrepreneurial spirit and developed a passion for home construction and development. Over the years, Toan called many places home, spending time in California near his son, Daniel; living in Vietnam for five years; residing in Washington, D.C., with his sister, Thao; and living in Houston with his partner, Muoi, before ultimately returning to Kansas City.

Some of his family's fondest memories with Toan spanned a lifetime—from playing soccer with his brothers, Thuc and Tri, as children in Vietnam. In Toan mid-20's, he was lead singer and drummer in a band. His family could always count on him to lend a hand with anything that needed to be built, fixed, or improved. He generously shared his skills through countless family projects, from building a deck for his mother to remodeling his sisters' homes. Among his proudest accomplishments was building a home of his own from the ground up.

Toan is survived by his mother, Dinh Trac; his partner, Muoi Lam; his son, Daniel Trinh; his sisters, Tien Trinh, Trang Trinh, and Thao Trinh; his brothers, Tri Trinh and Thuc Trinh; and many extended family members and loved ones.

Toan's family and friends will remember him for his generous spirit, his strength, and the many ways he cared for those he loved. His laughter, sense of humor, and the joy he brought to every gathering will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him.
