Victor Salvatore Cropis, 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2020, at Redwood of Carmel Hills Nursing Home in Independence, MO.
Victor was born in Kansas City, MO on January 11, 1924 to Sam and Rose Cropis. He attended Northeast High School and Rockhurst College. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a gunner in the ball turret of a B-17 bomber. Victor was a bartender for many years and was the owner of Vic's Village Lounge in Kansas City. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary, in 1975 and the two were married for 22 years. Victor loved sports. He played basketball, football, and bowled – boasting several 300 games. However, his greatest passion was golf with four holes-in-one. He was privileged to golf all across the country. In his leisure time he liked to scrapbook and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
Victor is survived by his daughter, Connie Alex; grandson, Greg Alex (Michelle); and three great-grandchildren Carley, Jessica and Mason. He is also survived by his sister Josephine Mirabile, and many nieces and nephews. Victor was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Rose Cropis; sisters Virginia DiMaggio (Ross), Lee DiMaggio (Fred), Clara Licata (Pete), Jenny Vento (John); brother Tony Cropis (Helen); and brother-in-law Jasper Mirabile.
Victor lived a rich and full life. He has been described as having a generous heart, smart, jubilant, kind, humorous and fun. He will be missed by all.
A Graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Raytown, MO.
