Virginia Mae Giarraputo, born January 20, 1931, passed peacefully on May 17, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.

Virginia was born to Frances and Henry "Harry" Strausbaugh of Paola, Kansas, and later moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she lived and raised her family. She worked many years for AT&T, Statland Clinic, and the Marriot Hotel. She loved being surrounded by family, where she could show her love for baking, especially cookies that were as beautiful as they were delicious.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Melcher Giarraputo; her parents Frances and Henry Strausbaugh; brothers Albert, Bernard, Joe, and Tom Strausbaugh; sisters Claramarie Bauer, Dena Jennings, and Rosemary Courtney; and granddaughter Nina Bartolomi. She is survived by her children Anthony Giarraputo and wife Shirley, Deborah Giarraputo; grandchildren Lauren Ryburn, Damiana, Antonino Giarraputo, Vinnie Bartolomi; great-grandchildren Viviana Bartolomi-Wiseman and Benicio Bartolomi-Rock; sister Carol Mills; brothers Donald, Jerald, and Jerome Strausbaugh; along with many in-laws, nieces, and nephews and their families.

Services will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church on Monday, May 23. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the National Federation of the Blind.
