Obituary

Virginia Mae Falcone Vigliaturo joined our Father in Heaven on November 18, 2023, peacefully after an extended illness and surrounded by loved ones. She was 91.

Born February 2, 1932, to Rose and Salvatore (Tudie) Falcone, Virginia was a studious child. An honor student of Glennon High School, Virginia's shyness was the perfect counterbalance of personality to her outgoing husband, Carmen, whom she married in April 1955 at the age of 23. Virginia retired from Russell Stover Candies, but her greatest joy and accomplishment was raising her family. She would regularly make time to volunteer at her daughters' grade schools and in her community. She enjoyed her time working at Sears and Roebuck and loved her bowling leagues. She was the secretary of her pinochle club. Virginia lived independently with her husband at the home they purchased on N. Askew Ave. in 1957, and she remained there until her health declined in recent months. Her strong will was always matched by her strong Catholic faith, and with her husband, Virginia was a fixture in Catholic circles citywide.  She and Carmen attended daily Mass at several churches in Kansas City, Missouri, during Lent and Advent.

Virginia is survived by her beloved and loving husband of 68 years Carmen Vigliaturo; her daughters Antionette Ishmael (Phil) and Cecilia Vigliaturo; her grandchildren Patrick Ishmael, Anthony Ishmael (Sierra), and Dominic Ishmael (Emma); and three great-grandchildren, Oliver Carmelo, Bernadette Lucia and Genevieve Chiara.

Virginia was preceded in death by her brother Jack Falcone, treasured infant son Frank Gerard Vigliaturo, as well as by her parents Rose and Tudie, and in-laws Antonia and Frank Vigliaturo and many sisters-and brothers-in-law.

A celebration of her life will take place on Friday, November 24, at Christ the King Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the Rosary at 11:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Saint Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Virginia's amazing caregivers: Sisters Servants of Mary or Catholic Community Hospice.

Virginia's pallbearers are Phil Ishmael, Patrick Ishmael, Anthony Ishmael, Dominic Ishmael, and nephews Sal Falcone, Andrew Falcone, and Joe Carmen Vigliaturo.

All the world's a stage,

And all the men and women merely players;

They have their exits and their entrances;

And one man in his time plays many parts,

His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,

Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms;

And then the whining school-boy, with his satchel

And shining morning face, creeping like snail

Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,

Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad

Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier,

Full of strange oaths, and bearded like the pard,

Jealous in honour, sudden and quick in quarrel,

Seeking the bubble reputation

Even in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice,

In fair round belly with good capon lin'd,

With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,

Full of wise saws and modern instances;

And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts

Into the lean and slipper'd pantaloon,

With spectacles on nose and pouch on side;

His youthful hose, well sav'd, a world too wide

For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice,

Turning again toward childish treble, pipes

And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,

That ends this strange eventful history,

Is second childishness and mere oblivion;

Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.
