Walter Woytowich passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Monday, August 4, at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, 130 NW Murray Rd., Lee's Summit, MO 64081, where the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.

Beloved father, faithful husband, true friend and veteran of World War II, Walter Woytowich was born to Dimitri and Julia Woytowich on January 22, 1919, in Youngstown, OH. After graduation from high school he met and married Ann Setz of nearby Campbell, OH, on January 22, 1942. Walter became a Private First Class in the U.S. Army Infantry Forces, landing at Normandy, France, during the D-Day Invasion. He also saw military action in the Battle of the Bulge. Upon return to Youngstown, Walter commenced a 30-year career as a metal lathe operator at Commercial Shearing. He was also a gifted craftsman and carpenter, as well as a theatrical set builder for the Youngstown Community Theatre.

He and Ann raised six children and were both involved in their Catholic Parish of St. Christine. Walter retired with partial disability in 1975 and then moved with Ann to John Knox Village in Lee's Summit in 1994. There, Walter kept up with his favorite activities of bowling, golf and card games, was a popular leader and volunteer with many social activities, and an interested friend and mentor to a growing number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Walter is survived by his wife, Ann; his children and their spouses, William and Judy Woytowich, Rick and Dorothy Woytowich, Judith and Gaary Spriggens, Mark and Linda Woytowich, Margaret and Lloyd German, Eric and Cynthia Woytowich; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Walter will be forever remembered for his strong yet gentle character, his tolerance, his gift of gab and outspoken jokin', his love of golf, God, and 72 years of devotion to his beloved Ann.
