Carl "Ziggy" Zicarelli, 86, northeast Kansas City, MO, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014. Visitation will be 9-10:45 a.m. Monday, January 20, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 911 E. Missouri Ave., Kansas City, MO 64106, where the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Cemetery.
Carl was born December 18, 1927, in Kansas City, MO, to Antonio and Maria (Cangelosi) Zicarelli, the youngest of nine children. He played Ban Johnson baseball and was recruited by the major leagues. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Korea and served as a special guard to Gen. Ridgeway during the Panmunjom armistice talks. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, and eight brothers and sisters. He was a devoted husband and father.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Theresa (DiStefano) Zicarelli; son, Antony Zicarelli; daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Roger Accurso; grandchildren, Tara Marie Manillo, Micaela Ann Manillo, Dominic Zicarelli; sister-in-law, Marie Zicarelli; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
