On July 23, 2014, one of the most kind, honest, and gentle souls went home to eternal peace. Doris Marie Scofield, 87, was born a beautiful little Indian girl and member of the Sac and Fox Nation on June 1, 1927, in a remote area on the Missouri / Kansas border named Kinney Heights, KS, to Leland and Mary Partelow (nee Schneiter).

In 1962 Doris married her beloved husband and soul mate, John W. Scofield , who survives her after 53 years of devotion to each other. Doris was a brave, supportive wife and friend to John. She was always willing to accompany him in all of his adventures and unusual endeavors, including skydiving, mountain climbing and touring horse tracks across the U.S. and Canada. She was not only willing, but genuinely enjoyed these adventures. John often refers to her as the bravest person he has ever known. Like a horse that wins the race, she ran with her strength, she persevered with her courageous heart, and she won with her character. Regarding his wife's passing, her husband says "and now, having to look into the unforgiving face of reality, I can painfully see that My Little Indian Girl is gone."

Doris is also survived by her sister, Josie Hall; two children; five grandchildren and their children.

A memorial visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124, where a memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Inurnment will be at Leavenworth, KS National Cemetery at a later date.
