Antonio Joseph "Tony" Bonavia, 78, passed away February 10, 2020.
Born in Kansas City, MO, on November 26, 1941, Tony was the son of the late Henry and Anna (DiBella) Bonavia and was brother to Carol Marie Dambrogio. He graduated from Cardinal Glennon High School and attended college at UMKC and Rockhurst. He married his sweetheart Joanna Marie (LeGrotte) Bonavia, on June 30, 1962, sharing nearly 58 years of marriage together. A lifelong area resident, Tony and Joanna called Gladstone home for over 40 years. Tony enjoyed a long career as an accomplished real estate broker, helping countless families find their homes in Liberty and the surrounding areas. For 6 ½ years Tony and Joanna owned and operated the Penntower Deli.
Tony was a man of many talents. He enjoyed yardwork, fishing, painting, working with his hands, and making people laugh. He will be most remembered for his witty sense of humor, his passion for music, his love for his family, and his willingness to always be available to help those in need.
Tony is survived by his loving wife Joanna; their six children: Lisa, Tony Jr., Henry, Joe and wife Eva, Laurie and husband Bob, and Jacqué and husband T.J.; 14 grandchildren: Stephanie and husband Dan, Carissa and Randy, Brendan and Sarah, Vincent, Michael, Matthew, Samantha, Joshua, Nicholas, Bryce, Kennedy, Brooklyn, Kensley and Heather; seven great-grandchildren: Lorenzo, Carter, Harper, Anthony, Jackson, Emily and Joseph; sister Carol and her children, Jana, Jimmy and wife Leslie and their children Frankie and Nico, Joey and wife Katie and their children Patrick, Christopher, Carolyn and Lillian, Deana and children Donnie, Annie and Franco; brother-in-law Joe LeGrotte (deceased) and wife JoMarie and her children Mark (deceased) and his children Michael and Gina, Joe and wife Shelly and their children Rachel and Joseph, Chris and his wife Jen and their children Ava and Aiden; as well as many niece, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. followed by visitation 4:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, February 17, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124. Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, February 18, at St. James Catholic Church, 309 S. Stewart Rd., Liberty, MO 64068, where the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Kansas City North. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society
