Obituary

Esther Marie Snellings, 73, born February 23, 1948, in Wichita, KS to Chester and Dora (Tetamo) Wood, passed away on January 17, 2022, at Aldersgate Village in Topeka, KS. She was a long-time resident of the Northeast district of Kansas City, MO.

Esther married Roy Snellings on March 25, 1989. Her husband Roy, along with her father, mother, and sister Vanda E. Collins, preceded her in death. She leaves one niece Candy, and two nephews Marty and Jonathan, along with their spouses and children, all of the Topeka area. She also leaves cousins in America and Italy, her sisters-in-law Judy Tinker and Sue Emperley, and brother-in-law John Snellings and their spouses, along with many nieces and nephews.

Esther worked in the food industry for many years and later worked in childcare in Stanley, KS. She was owner of the Coffee Cup Café where she prepared home cooking for many customers. Esther loved to cook and was good at it. She came from an American and Italian background. Her father met her mother in Italy while in the service. Esther did speak Italian and made a trip back to Italy to visit her mother's family. That was one of the highlights of her life. After graduating from Northeast High School in Kansas City, she entered college and received a degree in education from Central Missouri State College which she put to use in childcare. Esther loved to travel and see new things. She and Roy went on vacations to different area of the United States, but her favorites were water and the beach. Esther made sure she included her mother in many of the vacations and outings. She loved going to dinner theatre with Roy, Vanda, and friends.

Esther was an animal lover. Although she had no children, many fur babies brought her pleasure within her lifetime. She had many cats and dogs, along with a mule named Mollie. Esther mad sure all strays around her house received food and water, and she cared for many of them by letting them stay around her house for shelter and looking after them if they were hurt. Many animals passed through her life. She was truly an animal lover.

Esther was a giving person to many charities around the Kansas City area. She took a neighbor shopping who could not drive, she looked in on her mother as she got older and was a great support to Roy during his fight with cancer. Esther will be lovingly remembered by many.

Esther and Roy met when they both worked at Sysco in Olathe, KS. They dated for about six months before Roy asked her hand in marriage and were married six months later. They had a good life together for 27 years before Roy passed away December 18, 2015 . She missed him so much.

Esther is going to rest next to Roy and her parents and other family members at Maple Grove Cemetery near Fort Scott, KS. She made a great impression on many people and will be missed. As Sue told her many times, "Once a Snellings always a Snellings." That made her smile.

We will miss you and we love you, Esther.
