The Honorable Anthony J. Romano, Sr., 91, of Independence, MO, passed away September 12, 2023.

Judge Romano was born July 12, 1932, in Kansas City, MO, to the late John and Josephine (Maroon) Romano. He began serving as a Judge on the Jackson County Circuit Court in January 1979. He was in private practice for 20 years before taking the bench. Judge Romano served as Assistant Jackson County Prosecutor, Assistant Jackson County Counselor, and Assistant Missouri Attorney General. He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Rockhurst College in 1953 and his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1956. He received the 1998 Mothers Against Drunk Drivers Outstanding Judge of the Year Award for Missouri. He also served as an adjunct instructor at Avila College.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson Gary Romano. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marjorie Romano; daughter Kathy Romano; son Tony Jr. and Stephanie Romano; great-grandchildren Dominick, Anthony, and Jon Romano; and his brother James Romano and wife Judith Ann.

According to his wishes he was cremated and there will be no public service. Contributions are suggested to Mothers Against Drunk Driving ( MADD ).
