James Anthony "Jim, Jimmy, Jimbo" Teevan, was born to his loving parents Calista Mira and Harold Teevan on September 3rd, 1959 in Kansas City, Missouri. Jim passed peacefully on January 22nd, 2020, from natural causes while at work. He was surrounded by his children, grandchildren, family, friends, co-workers, and anyone that he happened to make laugh along the way.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Harold Redmond Teevan. He is survived by his loving mother, Calista Mira Teevan; his four beloved children, Jamie Savea, Brianne Teevan-Bongiovanni, Nina Vitale, and Victor Teevan; his grandchildren, Isaiah, Xavier, Noelani, Paulie J, Victor, Enzo, Emilia, Lei, Moana, MJ, Mackenzie, and Parker; his daughter-in-law and sons-in-law, Mandy Teevan, Enrico Bongiovanni, and Manuea Savea; his siblings, Debbie Emo, Grace Davidson, Brendan Teevan, Kevin Teevan, and Joanie Teevan; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. A special honorable mention goes to Steve Ralos for his friendship and bravery, and Johnnie Hill for trying to save our father's life while at work and being near him during the moment he passed.

Jim's childhood was filled with mischief, nature play, backyard games, and competitive sports. As a young teenager, his Pop Warner football team won Nationals. Jim especially loved football, rugby, and wrestling.  He was a proud and stellar Trojan athlete of St. Mary's Catholic High School in Independence, Missouri. He played tailback like a bulldog and wore the football jersey number #32. He also wrestled as a Trojan and claimed the most takedowns one season. To his parents' relief, he pulled off a graduation diploma from St. Mary's in 1977.  In 1979, as a 19-year-old, Jim delivered his second daughter at home using a shoestring and other various household items. He was proud of his immigrant parents and his Irish and Polynesian heritage. He often went through stages where he resembled each of these different ethnicities. Jimmy believed in the U.S. Military, the Republican Party, UFOs, and Bigfoot. He loved history, trivia, camping, fishing, some serious rock music, telling it like it is, sports, bare feet, beer, cigarettes, drumming on the dashboard, sleeveless shirts, facial hair, inappropriate jokes, greasy food, and anything that basically wasn't soft. For many years he was a jack of all trades and able to keep his physical strength and athletic build by being a blue-collar warrior. He loved adventure and pushing the envelope. He would take risks, especially if it meant that he would be able to share a good story for the rest of his life. Jimmy had many brave and heroic moments in his lifetime, like when he saved a family from drowning in a tipped canoe, or when he jumped headfirst out of a train right before it had a head-on collision with another train, or when he entered the field with his fierce competitive spirit that often ended with an ambulance on the scene.

Wholeheartedly, Jimmy brought his incredible sense of humor and spirit everywhere he went and to everyone he met. He pushed the boundaries to the edge with his humor and was capable of bringing out the mischief in just about anyone. Jim would go through great lengths to make others smile as if it was his purpose in life. He never met a stranger and rarely held a door open for someone or stood in-line without making a friend. He was keenly capable of making fun of you and loving you at the same time. He lived a simple and humble life and died with very little, but he knew that loving his family and grandchildren was of the greatest achievements and possessions he could ever acquire. Jim always spoke highly of all four of his children and their accomplishments and would often chuckle over funny remarks his grandchildren would say, like, "…my wants a nibble" (Victor Vitale, age 4).  Jim was affectionate, loving, capable of forgiveness, and understanding. He would go out of his way to lift others' spirits up. He was a proud Catholic, who loved St. Michael Archangel for being a demon slayer, and who said his prayers every night for his family and friends. He always arrived early and stayed late. He rarely missed a family event, the grandkids' sporting games, or holidays with his family. He had a tender heart for his siblings and parents, especially his mother, and often expressed his love and concern for her well-being.

His seven grandchildren said they will dearly miss "Poppy's" SPAM & egg noodles, funny faces, weird gorilla dances, tickles, "shark bites", snuggles, pranks, and infamous "pain games". Yes, "Pain Games!" All of his children, oddly, found them to be a ton of fun. They are also looking forward to visits from "Poppy," because he always said if he died he would play pranks on them from the other side.

Jim leaves this world with a comet trail of everlasting love and laughter and is sent into the heavens and universe knowing that he was loved and will be missed by so many.

A special Visitation for friends and family will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 911 E. Missouri Ave, Kansas City, MO 64106. The Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 30, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He will then be laid to rest at Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City. Following the services, a celebration reception for family and friends will be held at The American Sons of Columbus Hall, 2415 Independence Ave, Kansas City, MO 64124.
